Pourover: The SEC just got a whole lot tougher

John Calipari in red for the first time since he wore Crimson as the coach at UMass in 1996 is going to be weird. Since the year 2000, when Coach Cal took the job at Memphis, he’s donned a rich royal blue. Kentucky suited Cal, but now he’s going to be calling the Hogs in Fayetteville.

Kentucky didn’t have the home run hire search many of their fans wanted, but they did well when Mitch Barnhart turned to former UK player and current BYU coach Mark Pope. Pope isn’t Dan Hurley or Scott Drew, or whatever coach ‘Cats fans thought they were getting, but he’s a very good coach who runs really fun offenses and finished 5th in BYU’s first year in the toughest league in America, including a win in Lawrence over Bill Self.
